FUN FACTS

One of California's unusual gated cities: city planning materials describe Canyon Lake as one of only five gated cities in California.
Community roots: the master-planned development began in 1968; the City incorporated December 1, 1990.
The lake came first: Railroad Canyon Dam dates to 1927, creating the reservoir around which the community developed.
Nearly 15 miles of shoreline: historic city planning documents cite about 14.9 miles of shoreline and a 383-acre lake surface figure.
